What Makes Teachout Music Studio Different?

Our lesson programs give kids the skills to excel...no matter what their life looks like outside of lessons!

Unlike other music studios, at Teachout Music Studio:

- Students learn all of their music during their lesson: For kids, this means they can enjoy practicing at home without any help.

- Unlike sports, dance or many other activities, our music lessons work around your schedule. We are so flexible, we can accommodate even the busiest of families. We offer unlimited lesson rescheduling. No guilt-trips! This means your child won't fall behind due to your busy schedule. Nor do you end up paying for lessons missed due to conflicts or illness.

- Everything you need to be successful is included in monthly tuition: lesson books, recital music and fees... We take care of everything for you. No hunting for materials, or getting blindsided by sudden expenses.

- Students have access to a variety of instruments, games, recording equipment, and resources... Our students are immersed in an explorative, experimental, and creative environment that allows them to make music their own.

Alissa Teachout

Piano and Percussion

Alissa Teachout has been teaching private piano and percussion lessons for over ten years to students ages 4 to adult. She also teaches elementary school music K-5. Through working with literally thousands of students she has discovered how students learn best through self-discovery and fun.

Alissa is also an avid performer, performing on piano and percussion for churches, concert halls, and private recitals. Her favorite part about being a musician is the chance to connect with people from all over the world. Most recently, she returned from an international tour with the World Percussion Group in England, Spain and Portugal delivering concerts and masterclasses to university students.

She loves to teach and perform and her passion for music is contagious to all of her many students, both in her private studio and in public school.

Emily Smith

Piano

Emily has been teaching voice and piano since graduating with her Masters in Vocal Performance from the University of Nevada, Reno. In addition to Teachout Music Studio, Emily is a vocal instructor at UNR and loves teaching diction class!  Her favorite times performing have always been with friends and outreach programs in the community. When she’s not teaching or performing, Emily can be found playing board games, hanging by the Truckee River, or watching movies with her partner Drew and cat Sophie. Don’t be surprised if you run into her at Bibo grabbing her favorite coffee or gelato!

Makenna York

Piano

I’m Miss Makenna! I’m a composing student at the University of Nevada, Reno and a teacher to the bone. I play the cello and piano, and just sang my arranged version of “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone on the Miss Nevada competition stage! I am incredibly grateful to be around the students at Teachout, and also to work with Alissa, Emily, and Adriana who are not only my favorite teachers but excellent women.

Adam Teachout

Voice

Adam Teachout has been singing professionally his entire adult life and for parts of his childhood. He is well versed in an assortment of styles such as opera, pop, and musical theater, and also sings some rock, country, and even bluegrass.

Adam has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada in music education where he studied vocal performance and pedagogy. He teaches and performs in many different vocal styles and techniques.

Adam's students love to work with him because of his open and warm personality. He teaches students of a wide range of ages and experience levels. He is patient and "pleasantly persistent" in lessons. He gets to know his students and tailors lessons around each one. Adam takes the time to make sure that all the content in lessons is relevant to each student.

Adriana Ortega

Piano

Adriana began playing the piano during her childhood and taught private piano lessons for 2 years. She started performing in recitals at a young age, and now, teaching piano is her focal point. Growing up, she listened to and experienced a diverse range of music, influencing her to practice and perform from a wide array of music. Having a diverse range has always allowed her to be more creative and vivid in her playing and teaching. Adriana’s favorite part about performing is being able to interact with a piece and create a picturesque scene; she enjoys playing pieces that evoke a feeling of a spring breeze, much like Joe Hisaishi’s compositions, or a sense of waltzing in a dance hall like Juvintino Rosa’s compositions. Adriana is passionate about learning new teaching skills to motivate and encourage students to learn new skills and hobbies. Some of her favorite genres to listen to are Classical, Boleros, Jazz, K-pop, Japanese City-Pop, Lo-fi, and the list goes on. When Adriana isn’t playing the piano or listening to music, she enjoys studying Japanese, reading, watching anime, eating tasty food, and spending time outdoors.
